PDF Viewing for Firefox 3

I really like Firefox 3 and have always used it as my default web browser on both the Mac and PC platform. However, the way that Firefox handles PDF files is some what of an annoyance. If you are like me you too will find it rather odd then that when in Firefox and you click on a web link to a PDF file it will automatically download the file and then open the PDF up in Apple’s default Preview.app. Now the easiest way to solve this problem is the go ahead and start using Safari. However, one of the reason I use Firefox is for the amount of add-ons, extensions and customization you can do in it. So as usual their is a Firefox extension which adds this feature. (I believe their is an extension for pretty much everything) This simple extension adds the ability to view PDFs directly into Firefox. You can download the Firefox extension here.

Change Default Application

Alright, I’ve had enough. Whenever I open an .torrent file, Opera automatically opens, and not Transmission. So how do I change a file’s default application?

First, find that file (in my case, a .torrent file) and right click (or control + click) it. Select “Get Info” from the menu.

From this menu, click the triange beside the “Open With” pane to reveal the default application switcher.
Select your app from the drop down menu (I want Transmission) and then click “Change All”
Voila! Close the window!
Note: Oh, and if you only want that single file to open in that program, and all the rest to still stay in the other type, don’t click “Change All”. Just close the window.

How Can I Figure Out My Hard Drive Size?

Alvin writes:

How can I find out what size my Hard Drive is on my 15inch Macbook Pro.
Its processor speed only says 1.87???THANKS

One way to do this is by looking for the Macintosh HD icon on your desktop like this:

Macintosh HD

Right click (or CTRL-click if you’re using a single button mouse or a laptop) on the icon and you should see this:

Get Info

Left click on ‘Get Info.’

The screen that appears next should have a bunch of information about your hard drive, and in the ‘General’ section (you may have to click the triangle to open up the information) you should see this:

Hard drive size

The capacity on this computer states 111.47GB which is actually a 120GB hard drive (visit this wikipedia entry for an explanation of why the difference in sizes under the section titled ‘Consumer Confusion). It’s got 27.81GB available and 83.66GB used.
